10 Ratings Blurbs: 3/7/17 Edition

Back after a mini break. Feels good to actually have stuff to say this week.

1. The Voice (Tuesday: 11.422 million 2.6; Thursday: 10.694 million 2.3; Monday: 12.130 million 2.7)- NBC is probably breathing a sigh of relief that they were mostly able to survive the winter without desperately needing this show to return. While other networks are well into the process of running on fumes through the spring, NBC will probably coast knowing that they don’t have to count down the days until the upfronts and hope for a grand presentation to let them press the reset button for next season.

2. Chicago Justice (Wednesday: 8.732 million 1.7; Sunday 7.214 million 1.4)- The Wednesday numbers are good, but the Sunday numbers are the ones that need to be focused on. NBC will give this show another boost tonight by airing it after The Voice. For now, even the Sunday numbers aren’t a cause for alarm and NBC may be on the way to accomplishing the rare feat of having four successful scripted shows from the same franchise.

3. Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta (3.215 million 1.7)- Last season was the first of the series that had not one episode reach 3 million viewers. This is progress and now the march is on for having the show go six straight years of being VH1’s highest rated show.

4. Catfish: The TV Show (826,000 0.4)- I’m going to wait before I make any declarations here. MTV shows can be quite deceptive with their premieres. All I will say is that these are good premiere numbers.

5. Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party (1.113 million 0.6)- I’m stuck in a weird place with this show. I absolutely do not think it fits on Monday nights and the ratings reflect that. It doesn’t help that the first half of the season had better numbers than the second half. I don’t think the show should be canceled, but perhaps they need to try it out on another night if they are serious about using Black Ink Crew and Basketball Wives LA to lead nights with shows that don’t have good enough ratings for Mondays, but would draw more viewers than the throwaway shows they have tried in the past.

6. Little Women: LA (913,000 0.3)- This season, Lifetime decided to do things a little differently and decided to separate this show from its Atlanta spinoff. This is the original show and last season had some episodes hit series high numbers. We will see if it can replicate that type of success this season.

7. Once Upon a Time (3.027 million 0.9)- The phrase ‘they can’t cancel everything’ epitomizes the plight of this show. On most other broadcast networks, this show would be in danger of cancellation because of the combination of age and ratings. Unfortunately for ABC, the drama flops keep coming and unless they plan to expand their comedy slate even further (unlikely because they already have comedies on 3 nights), they might have to suck up another season of this and keep trying to find some drama hits. It is a dire situation over there and this show may benefit from the chaos of not being as bad as the freshman flops.

8. The Breaks (1.357 million 0.7)- If there were going to be a week where this show began its march towards mimicking some of its scripted predecessors, this would be the week. Unfortunately, the numbers have only inched up from the first 2 episodes. These aren’t the kind of numbers that would justify a second season, but the season is still young and I’m willing to bet that VH1 hopes these numbers improve with the best lead-in that the show can possibly have. It’s possible, but dramatic gains will need to be made going forward. Keep in mind that the last season of Hit the Floor had similar numbers and they are still quiet on that show (I take their silence to mean they have already decided to cancel it and they didn’t want to cause a scene by saying so).

9. Riverdale (1.089 million 0.4)- I think fans may need to start to worry about this show a little. The numbers have not been as strong as expected and the show is lagging behind its lead-in, Supernatural. We also have to keep in mind that The CW has already renewed 7 shows for next season and we can reasonably expect the network to order 2 or 3 new shows for next season. Even with timeslot sharing, that does not leave many open slots left for shows fighting for renewal.

10. Bad Girls Club (338,000 0.2)- If the (still not confirmed by Oxygen) rumors are true that this is the final season, these numbers are certainly making the case that cancellation will be the correct decision on this show. These numbers still double up the only other reality show currently airing on the network (Battle of the Ex-Besties), but the numbers are beginning to approach the territory of the network’s weekend crime lineup. It may be a situation where the rumors might have former fans avoiding the show.
