10 Ratings Blurbs: 12/15/15 Edition

I actually had to leave a lot of shows off this list. That's a shame because I feel like I will need them next week.

Update: I'm going to post my full ratings post here under the blurbs. These numbers of course are from December 8th-14th. I'll post last week's ratings and blurbs later today.

1. Love & Hip Hop (2.665 million 1.5)- Looks like this is up a little from last season’s premiere and these numbers are a little bit better than the last 3 weeks of Love & Hip Hop Hollywood. It’s a good start. We’ll see if these numbers can hold steady over the next few months.

2. Chicago Med (9.60 million 2.1)- This has only aired 4 episodes and obviously that was enough time to realize that this show deserved 5 more episodes (Bringing the total episode count this season to 18). I think the order extension was justified but like Chicago Fire, we all know the show will be judged on its true strength when it returns in January without help from The Voice, Like Chicago Fire, both shows will probably drop and be on the same playing field with Chicago PD.

3. Supergirl (7.28 million 1.5)- I mentioned a few weeks ago that this show is going to get some extra time to try to prove itself. The case so far for saving it is that CBS has a ton of older, more expensive dramas that are performing worse than this show. The case for cutting ties is that this isn’t doing any better than genre shows on other networks in the demo and there aren’t too many spaces to move this show where it won’t share an audience with another show or be seen as a dumping grounds. It looks like this show is going to have to make do with the hand it was dealt.

4. Tamar & Vince (790,000 0.4)- Thursday nights have been struggling hard since Braxton Family Values ended for the season (not counting the 3 specials). Maybe this season will bring much needed stability to a night that needs serious help.

5. Supernatural (1.90 million 0.7)- Unlike last year, this show gets to stand pat for the spring. The ratings did increase a little bit for the fall finale but I think we are seriously at a point where ratings may not matter too much for this show and the fans are probably just waiting for this show to get its official curtain call. The ratings aren’t begging for the show to be canceled so I would be stunned if some announcement came in early next year saying the show is going to end this season.

6. The Flash (3.55 million 1.3)- This show is sitting pretty going into the new year. It is still The CW’s highest rated show and it will most certainly be in that first wave of early renewals that the network likes to give.

7. Nashville (4.14 million 0.8)- This show is really in the same position that Revenge was in last year. The ratings are awful compared to other dramas on the network and with only 2 cancellations so far, this show isn’t in a good position to make a case for renewal. Those fortunes may change with the return of American Crime in the timeslot in January. American Crime was a show that wasted its Thursday lead-in with awful numbers (basically as bad as these Nashville numbers) and somehow still got renewed. If that returns with even worse numbers than this and there are no breakout midseason hits elsewhere, ABC may be forced to hold their noses with this one for perhaps a few more episodes next season since the show has been sold into syndication and the music is fairly lucrative.

8. Scream Queens (2.53 million 0.9)- Sadly, this show isn’t officially dead yet. The numbers say FOX should cut their losses and let Ryan Murphy focus on American Horror Story for a while. The only reason why this show isn’t dead is because this show, like American Horror Story, is billed as an anthology series (meaning the main storyline changes every season) and I’m guessing that FOX doesn’t trust their soon to be 2 hour comedy block.

9. Couples Therapy (496,000 0.2)- I was prepared to say something different but a little bit of research made me change that. This show averaged 542,000 viewers for the season, which actually makes this the lowest rated season since season 1. I know that ratings alone may not determine the future of this show. With Family Therapy on the horizon for next year and with Marriage Boot Camp on WE targeting practically the same pool of reality stars and being more successful with their casting (and ratings), it leads me to wonder if VH1 will abandon ship and put their hopes in Family Therapy. The only question is does VH1 wait until the spring to see how Family Therapy performs or do they feel that they need more time to try to strengthen that non-Monday schedule knowing that their top show in that category (Mob Wives) will run its final season beginning in a few weeks?

10. The Originals (970,000 0.4)- I have to believe that these ratings are going to fall a little bit more when this returns next month. Of course, people will blame it on the move to Fridays but we all know that a Friday move isn’t a death sentence for CW shows.
