It's finally time for me to stop procrastinating. I've had this done for 2 hours and I'm just now getting around to posting it.
1. True Blood (4.036 million 2.1)- Despite the fact that the finale itself was lackluster, I don’t think HBO was expecting huge blockbuster numbers here. The finale numbers and actually the numbers for this season as a whole were satisfactory. This was a show that went on way too long but the numbers still maintained a semblance of dignity. Now that HBO has firmly established their new flagship show of the future, their efforts can be spent trying to find a way to rebuild their summer and fall slate for next year.
2. Bad Girls Club: Chicago (1.037 million 0.5)- So this show has been a mixed bag of sorts for Oxygen. The premiere and finale numbers for this season are numbers that Oxygen hasn’t seen since seasons 3 and 4. However the overall season average still puts the show above season 11. It’s clear Oxygen would really prefer to do away with this show but with their continued ratings woes, they may be forced to continue beyond season 13 and they may take the summer and fall to come to that decision if they haven’t quietly come to one already.
3. K. Michelle: The Rebellious Soul Musical (740,000 0.5)- This did pretty well for something that only had a good 3 weeks of promotion. I’m under the impression that as long as they keep doing programs to cater to their African-American audience then it will be hard to find failures. However I also get the impression that VH1 will take these numbers to greenlight similar specials that won’t be targeted towards an urban audience and in that case pitiful ratings like what’s occurring on Wednesdays and Thursdays this summer will be waiting for them.
4. Don’t Be Tardy (1.008 million 0.4)- It appears that Bravo has quietly shifted this show to Sundays. It isn’t a bad move. Whatever they had behind Real Housewives of New Jersey was grossly underperforming and this show was floundering a little bit on Thursdays. It is an odd pairing but one that isn’t yielding disastrous results so the move is justified.
5. T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle (2.469 million 1.2)- Not counting the 2 episodes that aired in June, this is about even with where the last batch of episodes ended. Still this is way down from last season because this show used to be a perfect fit with Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta and now it is only doing slightly better than Hit the Floor. I expect these numbers to decline in about 3 weeks. Also these numbers make that idea of doing a spinoff for this show look unwise. It’s never a good idea to do a spinoff of a show on the decline.
6. Preachers of LA (686,000 0.3)- Oxygen has to be feeling sick with last week’s numbers for all of their shows. This show is no exception because I know they were hoping to have a strong premiere like the first season. That didn’t happen and with the prospect of a possible week 2 drop looming they could be in deep trouble if this show doesn’t find a way to recover because this isn’t the product of a lack of promotion.
7. Extant (5.57 million 1.0)- The fact that CBS didn’t bother to split up the numbers for these two episodes show they are over this show. The fact that they are planning to repeat the same strategy again can also be inferred that this show isn’t long for this world. They tried this experiment, it wasn’t a success and at this point they are grateful that this isn’t mid October where the criticism towards them and this show would be stronger but even they may not be immune to the fall cancellation bloodbath this year.
8. 2014 MTV Video Music Awards (8.257 million 4.2)-Yes this is down from last year but I doubt MTV cares. This is the highest rated program of the year for their network and this year will be no exception. They officially have nothing else of note to look forward to for the rest of the year.
9. Masters of Sex (840,000 0.8)- I’ve been in the dark about this show’s ratings for most of this season but this is still good enough to deserve its renewal from Showtime. I’ve seen the network renew much lower rated shows and Showtime seems to be one of those networks where if you get a shot you’re pretty much in there until the mutual decision is made to end the show.
10. Candidly Nicole (373,000 0.2)- When this show started it was in my opinion a bubble show but it wasn’t really on the safe side of the bubble. The show’s ratings have tumbled in the last 3 weeks and like Leann & Eddie this is basically a dead show walking. I can’t see how it gets a second season with these numbers. The show is ranked thirteenth out of 16 shows VH1 has premiered so far this year and VH1 has been quite stingy with renewals this year (VH1 has officially renewed two shows to date that have premiered this year).
