10 Ratings Blurbs: 8/19/14 Edition

This list is loaded with nothing but premieres and finales. Some of these numbers met expectations and others missed the mark a little bit.

1. Atlanta Exes (Premiere: 2.275 million 1.1; Episode 2: 1.678 million 0.8)- These numbers are a little bit underwhelming. I have to say this because this show is moving to 9:30 next week and Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta only has a couple more weeks on the air. These seem to indicate that viewers weren’t really in love with what they saw last night and this strong support won’t last too much longer so we could be looking at even more viewer erosion and that may put the show in dangerous territory.

2. Braxton Family Values (1.216 million 0.5)- This is a decent start. There’s nothing surprising about these numbers so not much can be said about them but it’s a nice start and hopefully viewers don’t begin to experience fatigue as the season wears on.

3. Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta (3.904 million 2.1)- VH1 might be smarting a little bit that after 17 episodes, this show has yet to top 4 million viewers. With that said, the reunions are typically some of the highest rated episodes of the season for this franchise so there’s still a great chance and they are going to need a stronger push with Atlanta Exes having a less than stellar start.

4. Sisterhood of Hip Hop (811,000 0.4)- This is an acceptable start for the show but there is a strong possibility that these numbers are being inflated by Bad Girls Club. Because the show will have several more weeks of help it will be hard for this show to fail but if the numbers begin to show a steady decline before Bad Girls Club ends then there should be serious concern for this show.

5. Switched at Birth (1.294 million 0.5)- I’m still not comfortable with these numbers but apparently the people at ABC Family are fine with them. This show will return next year and everyone has a lot of time to get their act together and find a way to win back the viewers they lost.

6. Duck Dynasty (3.81 million 1.4)- This wasn’t a juggernaut season and I think A&E realizes that the juggernaut days are over. Despite that, this is still their highest rated show and the show in my opinion has at least deserved the right to get an official final season announcement whenever that should occur.

7. Real Housewives of Orange County (2.027 million viewers)- I don’t think you will find too many people saying this but outside of Real Housewives of Atlanta, this has to be the second healthiest show of the Real Housewives series. Yes this is the original show but while all of the other franchises outside of Atlanta have begun to falter, this one is still as strong as it has ever been. Maybe Bravo should recognize that people like change and drama in small, tolerable doses.

8. Dallas (1.970 million 0.4)- These numbers aren’t very good. That 0.4 demo leaves a lot to be desired and if they don’t improve then the excuse that TNT botched this show by airing the first half too early in the year may not be valid.

9. Real Housewives of NYC (1.305 million 0.6)- I don’t think Bravo knows what to do with this show and to be honest I’m not sure what Bravo should do with this show. If it wasn’t a Real Housewives show I would say the numbers deserve a renewal despite how well it has performed in the past. Because it is a Real Housewives show, it probably should just be canceled only because it has had so many chances to do better and it still hasn’t performed well over the last 2-3 seasons. There are factors in play that can save this show and there are factors in play that may end this show so we’ll just have to see which argument is stronger.

10. America’s Next Top Model (1.11 million 0.4)- The CW should have let this show be on Fridays. I know it’s going back to Fridays in about 5 or 6 weeks but these numbers are not food enough to be on any night other than Fridays and if it weren’t for the fact that the show can still manage a 0.4-0.5 demo, it wouldn’t have any business being on Fridays either.
