10 Ratings Blurbs: 8/12/14 Edition

This is a pretty muted week with not much news going on. With that being said I'll be the first to admit that this week's post is pretty much a filler post with the majority of shows experiencing depressed ratings.

1. Under the Dome (6.90 million 1.5)- This season is really testing the definition of what a limited series should be. Last season, the show did so well that it was a no-brainer to renew it. This season the numbers aren’t dismal but they are in a place that makes you question if it will be worth it to do a third season. Stranger things have happened and CBS has renewed summer scripted shows with lower ratings so anything is possible.

2. Project Runway (2.008 million 0.6)- These numbers are beginning to rise from the premiere. Since it is so early in the season it could be a good sign that this might be a pretty good season for the show.

3. Ridiculousness (1.043 million 0.4)- This is shaping up to be a pretty weak season so far. It probably is just a result of this being a very slow period in the television season but if that’s the case the fall likely won’t make things better with the return of football.

4. Hit the Floor (2.368 million 1.1)- I’m not surprised that this was up from last week and I’m not surprised that this didn’t hit a season high for the finale. This isn’t the kind of show that will dramatically rise at certain points in the season. Still it’s one of only 2 shows that have been officially renewed by VH1 so far this year so it will be back but likely not until next spring.

5. Witches of East End (964,000 0.4)- This is a pretty dismal return from a 2 week break and Lifetime shouldn’t be happy about it. Hopefully it manages to creep back up next week because any more numbers like these will put the show in serious jeopardy.

6. Teen Mom 2 (1.774 million 1.0)- This show hit its peak a long time ago and at this point I don’t think anyone is expecting this show to do that well again. This show is doing fine right now and its ratings have never been a problem but I do think MTV is getting anxious that their window to find a new hit show before the veterans get too expensive is closing.

7. Here Comes Honey Boo Boo (1.125 million 0.5)-This really hasn’t been a very good season for the show. The viewers have fallen dramatically and right now the only thing that appears to be keeping this show afloat is the demo. In the past this was an older skewing reality show but now the demo skew appears to mimic that of most reality shows and that makes me believe that the viewers turning away from this show are older viewers.

8. So You Think You Can Dance (3.71 million 1.1)- I’ve been wondering for at least 2years why FOX continues to stand by this show. I suppose the reason is because reruns won’t do better than this but outside of the Gordon Ramsay shows, I’m not sure FOX is getting too much visibility to get some worthwhile promotion for their fall shows.

9. Make or Break: The Linda Perry Project (164,000 0.1)- I’m not surprised that VH1 is going ahead with moving this show to 11pm. These are horrible numbers and there’s no getting around that so there’s no reason to continue damaging the primetime average when your top show is nearing the end of its season.

10. The Fabulous Life of Pop Divas (378,000 0.1)- I’m not sure why VH1 keeps doing these specials. They are better suited for the E! network and even those viewers reject these type of shows as well. I know some specials are made specifically to plug into dead zones to suck up bored viewers who choose not to change the channel but when the initial ratings are this low, endless reruns are not going to do better.
