10 Ratings Blurbs 6/4/13 Edition

Now that the broadcast season has come to an end now it's time for cable to come in and dominate for the summer [Full List Here].

1. Hannibal (2.40 million 1.0)- I’m scratching my head a little bit at why NBC renewed this. Granted it’s only for 13 episodes and only going to come midseason (translation: it will come if something else fails very hard and there are no other viable alternatives to use otherwise it will get thrown on the schedule whenever NBC feels like it) but I wanted to believe that they had a little more faith in their new shows than what they are showing.

2. Married to Medicine (871,000 0.4)- Bravo has to be tremendously nervous about this show. They probably honestly thought that they had the next hit show but without Real Housewives of Atlanta this show is showing that it really isn’t worth much of anything. The season ratings are still much too high to justify cancelling this show but Bravo knows that some retooling plus more protective scheduling may be needed with this one.

3. Best Ink (373,000 0.2)- I’m not surprised that Oxygen renewed this show. They really do want to convince themselves that they have a popular network. What I am surprised about is that they renewed this show and ordered 2 similar shows (tattoo themed shows) on the week that this show saw the lowest numbers of the season so far. That’s not a very good PR move.

4. Real Housewives of New Jersey (2.84 million 1.3)-This is actually a very impressive premiere for the show. Seeing that Real Housewives shows tend to start low and increase towards the end of the season this is a fairly good low range (not that the numbers won’t dip a little before trending upwards).

5. The Killing (1.76 million 0.4)- Yeah the fans are going to be waiting on pins and needles all season with this one. The show came back and did not attract any new viewers. Now that people know that this is cancel territory for the show they need to spend all season worrying that this reprieve could be the last chance this show gets on AMC if the numbers don’t improve.

6. The Haves and the Have Nots (Premiere: 1.773 0.6; Episode 2: 1.816 million 0.6)- In terms of cable scripted shows this would be a weak showing. In terms of Tyler Perry shows this would be an average debut. In terms of being an OWN show this is fantastic because they literally have nothing else that comes close to this (Iyanla has only been in this area once and only really popular black celebrities who sit down with Oprah attracts numbers better than this). However 2 episodes doesn’t make a season so there’s no reason to get happy yet.

7. Stevie TV (318,000 0.1)- This is down from last season but that’s not much of a surprise nor is VH1 worried about it. Given that Best Week Ever and The Jenny McCarthy show both had many weeks where they struggled to see 250,000 viewers VH1 sees this as a pretty good showing for them.

8. Teen Wolf (2.36 million 1.0)- This is promising but what gives me pause is the fact that Awkward started in this same general area too before falling. It's way too soon for MTV to take a deep breath before believing that their ratings worries are over for at least one show.

9. Beyond Scared Straight (1.247 million 0.5)- It’s nearly impossible to keep up with when this show goes off the air and comes back. That schedule almost makes this show’s ratings irrelevant and I’m guessing the only way it goes is through A&E deciding one day that they are just going to end the show.

10. Keeping Up With the Kardashians (3.02 million 1.6)- This right here is why this family won’t go away and why E! can’t sever ties with them. The Kardashians simply bring too many viewers to their network that they can’t get any other way with anybody else. It’s a simple and obvious fact.
