10 Ratings Blurbs: 11/20/18 Edition

I'm obviously not rushing to end my week early. Next week's post will probably be delayed until Wednesday because of the holiday. I don't know if I'll have enough to do a full list then, but I know I will have to abbreviate these posts again soon.

1. American Horror Story: Apocalypse (1.830 million 0.8)- This season did itself a favor by stabilizing the numbers by episode 3. That has not typically happened with this show. The numbers have made the people at FX happy and we know it will be back next year.

2. Love & Hip Hop Hollywood (1.929 million 0.7)- There have been a lot of rumors surrounding the show this season. None of them point to the show being canceled. The numbers don’t warrant it. A change in production companies almost certainly means there will be a change in style for next season. What VH1 needs to worry about is trying not to fall into the trap they fell into almost 10 years ago when the people on their most popular shows had such dire personal issues that it forced the downfall of an entire genre and the network felt compelled to transition to classier shows with disastrous ratings results.

3. Real Housewives of Orange County (1.178 million 0.4)- I’m sure Bravo hoped that this show would have mimicked past history of improving its numbers over the course of the season. That didn’t happen and while it looks like the show isn’t in any danger, I wouldn’t put it past Bravo to pull some kind of experimental cast trick for next season to see if they can continue to extend it’s already long run.

4. Return to Amish (879,000 0.3)- It has been a very long time since I had this show on my list. By my research, the last episode that aired was June 2017. I can’t say that these are bad numbers. It’s possible that a few people have moved on from the show or simply forgot about it, but this isn’t a bad showing for a return.

5. Jersey Shore Family Vacation (1.208 million 0.7)- This was a good time to squeeze in a Thanksgiving special (that got 786,000 viewers with a 0.5 demo). Every network is going to load up on reruns and specials and simply defer to sports this Thursday.

6. Dancing with the Stars (7.900 million 1.1)- I think it may have been one of the better decisions to keep this season short. Now ABC knows that they can transition into the winter (after the holidays) using the night for some of their better performing reality shows.

7. Black Lightning (902,000 0.3)- This is on the list because this is the show that is going to move when it returns from winter break in January. It looks like The CW is going to do the same move that they did with Supergirl last season where they will put Legends of Tomorrow on an extended hiatus and air the remaining episodes of this show in its place. I see why they made the move (wanting to open that post-Flash spot to help a new show), but I can also see why there would be a lot of unhappy Legends of Tomorrow fans who will have to wait for the show to return in April. It’s probably the drawback to having too many shows, not enough spots to air them and a bunch of shows that they view as interchangeable.

8. Supernatural (1.478 million 0.4)- The CW is being smart this year and deciding to just skip new episodes on Thanksgiving. It doesn’t make sense to be forced to designate a new episode as a special when they can have one extra episode to prevent having to work in a 3 week hiatus somewhere down the line.

9. T.I. & Tiny: Friends and Family Hustle (1.116 million 0.5)- I’m thinking that VH1 may want to wait until next week to see how this show does behind a different Love & Hip Hop show. The issue is that I don’t think they know what to expect from the upcoming New York season. These numbers have not been strong, but since they are looking to expand the Love & Hip Hop franchise into Wednesdays next year (I assume to give the Black Ink Crew shows a much needed break), there may need to be a show or two that could follow it and this could be a candidate (not for this season, but next season, if there is a season 2).

10. Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars (290,000 0.1)- This clip show is only here because I didn’t realize that the previous episode was the finale. The season has had low numbers, but I can’t imagine the show not returning unless they can’t find people willing to be on it.
