10 Ratings Blurbs: 11/13/18 Edition

I still haven't seen the final viewer numbers for last night's broadcast shows. I do have the final demos for them (1.7 for The Voice, 0.9 for Dancing with the Stars, 0.4 for Arrow and 0.3 for Legends of Tomorrow).

1. Chicago Fire (8.261 million 1.3)- Of the three Chicago shows, this show airs in the best spot and it consistently has the best numbers of the three. That is not to say that NBC is unhappy with the performance of the other two shows. The other shows still manage to stay within 0.1-0.2 demo points of this show. It didn’t seem like a smart strategy, but for now, the move to air all three shows together isn’t a complete disaster.

2. Black Ink Crew (1.063 million 0.6)- The numbers have been a little low this season, but they have been in line with the last season of the Chicago version. There does appear to be a little unexplained volatility with these numbers, but the lows aren’t bad enough to put the show in any real jeopardy.

3. Real Housewives of Atlanta (1.841 million 0.7)- So far, this isn’t a great start for this specific show. The numbers are certainly good enough to keep this as Bravo’s #1 show, but age and cast changes are beginning to catch up with it. Much like most other shows on TV, people don’t see this show as appointment viewing. They may still want to watch, but they aren’t going to make the effort to watch it live.

4. The Haves and the Have Nots (1.723 million 0.3)- Most networks chose to pass on airing new programs last Tuesday night to make way for election coverage. This show (much like The Challenge), wasn’t hurt by the decision to stay with a new episode. The numbers didn’t improve, but that’s all you can ask for on a night that only comes around every two years.

5. Supergirl (1.157 million 0.3)- As the CW shows begin to settle in for the season, I’m beginning to see a pattern emerge. It is the same pattern that The CW has followed for several years now. That is that individually, it looks like most of these shows are in the danger zone with their numbers. Collectively, if the average turns out to be a 0.3 demo, that means the bulk of these shows are actually going to be safe and the only shows at risk of being canceled are the freshman shows that miss the mark.

6. Real Housewives of New Jersey (1.188 million 0.5)- This really isn’t too far off with how the show started last season. I’m sure Bravo wished these numbers were a little higher, but given that they have suffered through weeks of Real Housewives of Dallas airing in this spot, they will take this improvement (even if this show does nothing to help the Dallas numbers).

7. Teen Mom OG (910,000 0.5)- These are expected results from this show. I don’t really have anything good or bad to say about it. I just needed one more show to fill out the list.

8. Married to Medicine (645,000 0.2)- You may be wondering why these numbers tanked so hard. It is because Bravo moved the show to Saturday night. At first, I thought it might have been some kind of defensive move to navigate around the holiday weekend, but no. This show for some inexplicable reason is going to stay on Saturday nights. It’s not often that you see networks try to actively kill shows, but the last 3 seasons have been a fantastic example of this. Now it is up to fans to remain resilient and do what they can to follow the show wherever it goes.

9. How to Get Away with Murder (3.020 million 0.7)- I’m still not very high on the prospects of this show. We have about another month to go before it goes on winter break and because the season is so short, there won’t be too much time to make a determination. Because ABC is typically very tight lipped about their cancellations, fans may want to hope for some type of news by January. If not, it will be an excruciating wait until May as ABC assesses their midseason lineup to see what is worth saving.

10. In Session: Live with Dr. Jess (499,000 0.2)- This is very low for a Monday night special on VH1. I would argue that these numbers are low for a special on any other night too. Because it’s a special and it technically aired on a holiday, it won’t hurt them, but I’m not sure the door is open to do more specials of a similar type unless it’s being done as a public service announcement (which I suspect this was for in the first place).
