10 Ratings Blurbs: 10/2/18 Edition

Premiere week means back to the new posts. It will continue for a couple more weeks because The CW has not yet begun their fall campaign.

1. Fear the Walking Dead (2.127 million 0.7)- This had an understated season. The numbers were down from last season, but they weren’t low enough to give AMC pause and that’s why the show has already been renewed for next season.

2. Remy & Papoose: Meet the Mackies (968,000 0.5)- This isn’t a very good showing behind Love & Hip Hop Hollywood, but fortunately for VH1, this will only be on for two more weeks.

3. Empire (6.093 million 1.9)- I feel like FOX would prefer these numbers to stay as close to the 2.0 demo mark for as long as possible this season. It could happen, but it’s not all that likely, especially after the winter break. I will say that I can’t see a scenario outside of the producers wanting to call it quits that would make FOX want to cut the show loose at the end of the season. There’s a lot of room for the numbers to fall.

4. Chicago Fire (8.077 million 1.3)- I still think it’s strange that NBC has decided to treat the three shows as a monolith, but here we are. I’m going to do the same as far as these posts go unless and until one of the three separates itself from the pack in a noticeable way (good or bad).

5. Black Ink Crew (1.109 million 0.6)- These numbers are down a little from last week’s premiere, but it is still fine for Wednesday. I’m a little confused by the 10pm hour (seems to be boosting Safeword which migrated from MTV in the middle of the season after struggling over there). I wouldn’t be surprised if VH1 shifts this back to 8 or 9 at some point this season.

6. Big Brother (5.647 million 1.7)- I know there are some questions swirling around the fate of the show (mostly focused on the host). The numbers are certainly good enough to keep the show around. I feel like a host decision shouldn’t be enough to derail the show because they have a year to make a decision and CBS doesn’t have a backup summer option. This is it for them unless they’re going to hold all their in-season flops to burn off next summer.

7. Married to Medicine (1.084 million 0.4)- I’m not going to say the show is experiencing a revival over the last two seasons. We know the numbers were lower because the show was on Fridays. The fans are obviously more comfortable with the show being on Sundays and the show is much more resilient than Bravo wants to give credit for.

8. Teen Mom OG (957,000 0.6)- It could be worse, but MTV will take these numbers. The Teen Mom shows work for them on Mondays.

9. Hell’s Kitchen (2.981 million 0.9)- This didn’t benefit from the big boost of the comedy lead-ins but these numbers are in line with last season. The thing to take away from this is that the show has been on so long that the fanbase is already baked in and they aren’t going anywhere.

10. How to Get Away with Murder (2.932 million 0.8)- I remember commenting last season that the only reason why this show wouldn’t get canceled is because ABC didn’t want to have to launch two new shows on Thursday nights this fall. These numbers have to seriously terrify ABC and it is time to start wondering if this is going to be the final season.
