10 Ratings Blurbs: 7/3/18 Edition

It's a day before the holiday and it's been more than a month since I've done a full post. Since there were more than a handful of shows with premieres and finales, I figured this was a good time to put something together.

1. America’s Got Talent (11.323 million 2.0)- The show is doing pretty well this summer. The numbers aren’t as high as past seasons, but that has been a common theme across the TV landscape. NBC is happy with what they are seeing so far.

2. Love & Hip Hop Atlanta (2.076 million 1.0)- The story of this season is the fact that this is the lowest rated season of the 7 seasons that have aired. Because most shows have seen year-to-year declines in their numbers, there’s a decent chance that this could still end the year as VH1’s top rated series (a streak that has never been broken as long as this show has been on air).

3. Big Brother Wednesday: 5.331 million 1.5, Thursday: 5.132 million 1.4, Sunday: 4.784 million 1.2)- These numbers are a little bit low for the first week, but if they manage to hold steady over the course of the season, I don’t think CBS will be too worried about the show.

4. Jersey Shore Family Vacation (1.624 million 0.9)- MTV isn’t giving this show a whole lot of time off between seasons. They have already announced that the show will be returning next month. The reboot was never going to receive the numbers of its predecessor in its heyday, but these are good numbers for a network that had been struggling to find its way over the last few years.

5. Power (1.554 million 0.6)- Summer has typically been the time where the cable networks (particularly premium cable) shine. This year is different. There aren’t a logjam of shows to dominate the 9pm Sunday hour. This show did very well to make its mark on a competitive night last year and this year, it seems poised to do very well with sharply decreased competition.

6. Claws (1.248 million 0.4)- We’re not seeing the slow growth that the show had started to do last season, but the positive thing here is that the numbers haven’t fallen off from last season either. They are managing to hold steady and that should be good enough to not give TNT some cause for concern.

7. Mama June: From Not to Hot (759,000 0.2)- Much like the first half of the season, these numbers are more than acceptable for WE on Friday nights. They’re great and the only regret is probably that the night isn’t as strong as they might have hoped because the return of Bridezillas appears to be languishing.

8. Rupaul’s Drag Race (838,000 0.4)- Like last season, the numbers have been all over the place. It was good enough for VH1 last season and it’s good enough this season. These finale numbers are pretty good. The show has already been renewed and will return for another season.

9. Kandi Koated Nights (533,000 0.2)- I’m not sure the expectations for this show were supremely high given the time of year and the lead-in, but I’m of the belief that these numbers are a little short of what Bravo might have wanted to see (I was thinking they may have wanted to see 600k on the low end).

10. VH1 Trailblazer Honors (232,000 0.1)- It was pretty obvious that VH1 didn’t have high expectations for this special, but I think they expected it to do a little better than this behind the Drag Race finale.
