10 Ratings Blurbs: 5/27/15 Edition

Holidays....can't stand them. They're so boring and I always get confused.

1. Dancing with the Stars (13.49 million 2.3)- For this show to be so old, two things happened here to make the season look strong. First, it did manage to increase its numbers a tiny bit. Second, everything else around it has suffered severe ratings declines. When those things happen, this show doesn’t look too bad.

2. The Voice (11.56 million 2.9)- Like most broadcast reality shows, age is beginning to catch up to this show. It isn’t the strongest finale but NBC will take it. It is still a very important part of the lineup and gimmicks haven’t proved to be successful so the focus may turn to trying to slow down the viewer loss to extend the life of the show.

3. The Flash (3.87 million 1.5)- This is a very strong finish to a very strong first season. Not too many shows live up to their hype. Granted the bar for success here was much lower than other hyped shows but this show managed to meet and exceed expectations. In this current TV climate, that’s a good thing but its success probably won’t be heralded as much as it could be given the success FOX had with their freshman show Empire.

4. Love & Hip Hop Live: The Wedding- (2.041 million 1.0)- Now Monday was a holiday and there was some NBA playoff competition going against the second hour of this but I still have to believe this is a disappointment. VH1 can’t blame the holiday on lower numbers because past years on Memorial Day has proven to be successful. I didn’t think they were going to get stellar numbers for this but I thought it would have done a bit better than this. It’s not a failure but it’s probably not the ratings draw they were hoping for either.

5. Braxton Family Values (1.234 million 0.6)- This is right about where the show normally comes in so it looks like the fans were ready for the show to return. It is a premiere so the numbers can slide a little from here but this is a good start and I’m not seeing the effect of age here yet.

6. Teen Mom OG (1.538 million 0.9)- Who knows what MTV is planning to do with this show. They haven’t had a great stretch for 2 years now. This show is still a bright spot for them. Now it is just a matter of wanting to put up the money to pay the original girls to keep doing the show and if the numbers they get for this show justify the costs.

7. Veep (975,000 0.5)- This is pretty good for a holiday weekend. It shows that being the third show in line isn’t always a bad thing and that the show has its own fans. Some people may feel this show needs to do better with Game of Thrones leading off the night but HBO hasn’t had the best success with comedies and their spring lineup gives the stability that they now need to find for the rest of the year.

8. Supernatural (1.73 million 0.7)- Everyone know that shows that go beyond 10 years in this day and age are rare and can end at any time and for any reason. No one is making any indication that next season will be the last one and for now we are just going to have to go with it.

9. Masterchef (3.39 million 1.2)- The summer season is officially upon us and that means ratings that don’t look so great probably a month ago now seem ok. That’s what we have here. These numbers look terrible but Hell’s Kitchen isn’t doing much better and FOX is ok with that. That means the numbers are acceptable.

10. Swab Stories (266,000 0.1)- I knew the numbers were going to tank after that inflated premiere and that’s what happened. Surprisingly, the numbers are better than every other Wednesday show so far this year and that’s when you take out that inflated premiere (if you do that, the numbers are really close to Hindsight). Since VH1 has shown that they have absolutely no standards this year and the average will continue to be inflated, I have to believe the show still has a decent chance of getting another season even with several more episodes left to air.
