10 Ratings Blurbs: 4/14/15 Edition

The story of the week is basically the return of Game of Thrones. Everything else just seems so irrelevant.

1. Game of Thrones (7.997 million 4.2)- I know The Walking Dead spoils a lot of folks’ opinions on what constitutes as a hit show but everyone can agree that this show is a hit. Hitting series highs in season 5 is a fantastic feat and there was anticipation with the return of this show. HBO may have a little trouble with finding hit shows but the hits they do have almost always end up being pop culture phenomenons.

2. Love & Hip Hop (2.289 million 1.2)- So VH1 has been going a little spinoff crazy over the last couple of weeks. Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta is getting a new aftershow, The Game is getting a new spinoff of his own and this show is getting a two hour wedding special next month. All of this makes me feel like it is 2009 again. Let’s all hope history doesn’t repeat itself because this network would be nothing without this franchise and all the shows it has helped and spawned along the way.

3. Gotham (4.50 million 1.5)- This came off a pretty extended break and while I understand the need for the break, (all in-season broadcast shows have to do them) it may not have been the best time to have one. These numbers are about as low as they have been all season. A lot of shows won’t have strong finishes but it is still important to try to create some sort of positive momentum heading into season 2.

4. Black Ink Crew (1.951 million 1.0)- I’m not sure I’m fully convinced that this is the real season finale for the show. I do believe this is the last episode for at least the rest of the spring and summer and I do believe that it will return. I am just not certain if the return will be season 4 or just some leftover episodes from this season like they did last season.

5. Keeping Up with the Kardashians (1.799 million 0.9)- Now these are the numbers I am used to seeing for this show. These are actually good numbers considering that it aired directly against Game of Thrones. There is nothing else E! could have put in the spot that would pull numbers like these with or without that sort of competition.

6. Veep (1.048 million 0.5)- HBO basically took all the intrigue out of these ratings by renewing the show yesterday. I am aware that is not an uncommon practice for them but I guess they did it because they feel their spring slate is now the strongest lineup of the year and they don’t want to mess with it (That plus they ended a ton of veteran shows last year).

7. Real Housewives of New York City (1.565 million 0.6)- Bravo has every reason to be nervous about these numbers. It is the premiere, it features the return of an original castmember and it aired behind the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills reunion. When all of those factors come together and this is the best the show can do, some soul searching needs to be done here. They have done just about everything possible to save this show and now the only thing left to wonder is how much the ratings decline from here.

8. Ridiculousness (756,000 0.4)- These numbers may not really be up to par with MTV’s other shows but they don’t care. Obviously it is a very cheap show to make and they can produce as many episodes as they want. Sometimes you just need shows that fill space and will do better than reruns and that’s what we have with this show.

9. Revenge (3.84 million 0.9)- Rumors are flying around that ABC is planning to cancel this show in about a month. All I know is ABC will be coy until the last minute so don’t expect to hear any definitive news on any of their shows until the end of the second week of May (According to past trends, the decision on all current ABC shows should be announced late afternoon on Friday, May 8th).

10. Single Ladies (232,000 0.1)- Now these are numbers that I would expect from Centric. I’ll also let it be known that these are the first numbers I have ever seen from any show on that network. It isn’t a big network and when the mothership (BET) doesn’t have much going for it, it is hard to draw attention to the smaller, niche networks.
