10 Ratings Blurbs: 3/19/19 Edition

This is actually my 550th post on this blog, but I'm much too distracted to celebrate it.

1. Love & Hip Hop (1.626 million 0.8)- Not sure what happened between one half of the reunion and this half to cause such a noticeable rise, but VH1 will take it. The oldest show in network history will live to see another day.

2. MasterChef Junior (Premiere: 2.816 million 0.8; Episode 2: 2.555 million 0.7)- The Gordon Ramsay shows are not going to bring in the powerhouse numbers anymore, but they are going to deliver some steady, modest numbers. That’s why the shows continue to stay on air.

3. Marriage Boot Camp: Hip Hop Edition (775,000 0.3)- This is a season high for the finale, but unless WE uses the same sort of people and leaves it on Thursday nights, there’s no reason to believe that next season can do as well as this season did.

4. Black Ink Crew (845,000 0.4)- Because this is a continuation of a season and not a new season, this return marks a season low. The numbers may come up a little, but it’s hard to say because the Chicago version spent a lot of weeks in this range over the last few months.

5. Project Runway (1.017 million 0.3)- I think Bravo would have liked to have seen some better numbers here. They did try hard to promote the return of this show to their network and these numbers are lukewarm at best.

6. Empire (4.399 million 1.2)- The total viewers are a little lower, but that demo took a bit of a hit over the long winter break. There are definitely some changes coming to the show (we all know why) and the rest of the season might have some awkward, rocky numbers while trying to work through those imminent changes.

7. Love & Hip Hop Miami (Finale: 1.056 million 0.6; Reunion Part 1: 1.123 million 0.5)- It’s rare that the finale and half of the reunion air on the same night, but I don’t think this is unprecedented (I just can’t remember when or where it happened). What should be disappointing is that this didn’t get a little more of a boost from earlier in the night. There’s always next week to get one last shot at ratings redemption, but don’t expect blockbuster numbers for the Love & Hip Hop Atlanta premiere.

8. Mama June: From Not to Hot (651,000 0.2)- It probably doesn’t help that the star of the show got arrested a couple days before the premiere. These numbers are okay, but not where the show has been the first couple of seasons.

9. Star (3.573 million 1.1)- These numbers aren’t too much of a shock. They weren’t that much higher before the hiatus and it doesn’t look like it suffered too much from Empire’s drop.

10. Black Lightning (845,000 0.2)- Though this was renewed for next season, this might be a candidate for some schedule foolery. I think The CW will try to drag it to syndication (but the short seasons mean they will need at least 5 seasons to do it). The numbers say that this may not make the fall schedule or if it does, it will timeshare with another show (basically play the same role that Legends of Tomorrow plays). The network is going to get all they need out of this show and nothing more. The numbers now do not justify keeping it around for more years than they have to.
