We've started a new year and a new decade. So let me run down a few stats from both since this post will be so short for at least the first month [Updated 8/4/20].



2010's Tidbits

- The highest rated shows each year were What Chilli Wants (Season 2 in 2010), Love & Hip Hop (Season 2 in 2011) and Love & Hip Hop Atlanta (Seasons 1-8 from 2012-2019)

- The highest rated single telecast was CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story in 2013 (4.485 million)

- 34 shows aired in 2010, the most of any year in the decade. Of those 34 shows, 12 were renewed for additional seasons and only 6 of those shows averaged at or better than 1 million viewers.

- On the other end of the spectrum, 2017 saw the least number of shows in a calendar year over the decade (16 shows). Of those shows, 10 were renewed for new seasons and 13 of the 16 shows averaged at or above 1 million viewers. (The renewal total was originally 11, but VH1 renewed The Breaks, shipped the show off to BET and then BET rescinded the renewal in late 2017).

- No show averaged at or above 2 million viewers in 2010 or 2019. Of the shows averaging above 2 million viewers for the decade, only 4 were not affiliated with the Basketball Wives, Love & Hip Hop or Black Ink Crew franchises. They were T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle (Seasons 1-3), Single Ladies (Seasons 2 & 3), Hit the Floor (Seasons 1 & 2), and Marrying The Game (Season 2).


2019 Tidbits

- Only 5 shows have been renewed as of January 1st (I expect this number to double at minimum because it doesn't include the bulk of the shows from the Basketball Wives, Love & Hip Hop and Black Ink Crew franchises).

- 2019 saw at least 1 show airing on every night except Saturday.

- 2019 saw only 1 show with an early cancellation (Grown & Sexy only aired 3 episodes before it was pulled last January).

- 6 shows averaged over 1 million viewers. Of the 6, only one did not air on Monday nights (The most recent season of Basketball Wives, which aired on a Wednesday).

- 2019 was the first year where no Black Ink Crew season averaged over 1 million viewers.
