10 Ratings Blurbs 8-6-13 Edition

These next 3 weeks might seem like there's a rush of shows coming and going but all of it is just a preview of what's to come in September and October.

1. The Haves and the Have Nots (1.872 million 0.6)- I can’t remember if I’ve talked about this since it got the episode extension but whatever. I can say that this show is almost singlehandedly bringing OWN towards ratings respectability and it really does look like they deserve a pat on the back for this show delivering the viewers they desperately needed and establishing stability on a level that the network has not seen before (They have had 1 episode specials do better than this show but not a series that can consistently tally this many viewers week after week).

2. T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle 3 (3.504 million 1.9)- So VH1 did the sneak split season route on this show. Not a bad deal but the show was already #2 on the year for the 1st half episodes. These 2nd half episodes won’t do much to change that especially since the ratings will nosedive in 2 weeks.

3. The Killing (1.483 million 0.5)- This show is in the exact same predicament it was in last year. The ratings aren’t great but the finale did show some improvement from previous weeks. Once again it will simply be a waiting game to see if it is good enough to live on.

4. America’s Next Top Model (1.55 million 0.6)- I’m taking a wait and see approach with this one. The long break and the new twist appears to have done some good but there’s no way of telling if this was initial hype or something that could legitimately breathe some life into this old show.

5. The Challenge: Rivals II (1.776 million 1.0)- Yea this show might be old as dirt but it like the Real World always fall into that pattern of having 1-2 seasons that suck before getting the good season that forces MTV to keep the show going. This is looking more and more like the good season.

6. VH1 2013 Do Something Awards (258,000 0.1)- This never really does all that well for VH1 but they keep sticking with it because it is the only awards show they have. At this rate they will never be on the same level as the MTV Movie Awards (and let’s not bring the VMA’s or the BET Awards into this discussion).

7. Real Housewives of Orange County (2.386 million 1.2)- The OG season continues to deliver OG numbers. Seems like 2 of the franchises are more certain about their futures than this one and 2 aren’t. This one just gets to keep paving the way for the more certain franchises to see how long it can keep going.

8. Beyond Scared Straight (9:00-1.833 million 0.8; 10:00-1.788 million 0.8)- I guess this is how you know when this show is having a finale. The ratings go up. I think this is one of those shows that just gets a continual pass until A&E decides to end it because the audience is too steady and the reruns are so crucial to the schedule to just scrutinize it on weekly numbers alone.

9. Marrying The Game 2 (2.882 million 1.5)- Perhaps a little tiny bit lower than what I thought it could do but this is a good start. If it holds this next week then the crash to come in 2 weeks really won’t mean a thing for the future of this show because it should be able to coast on these numbers for the rest of the season.

10. Princesses: Long Island (899,000 0.4)- This show is in the exact same predicament it was in 3 weeks ago. If this was a standalone show on Bravo the ratings would be great and there would be no issues with it getting another season. However this show is still behind RHONJ and even as that show’s ratings have improved, this show has still not once gone over 1 million viewers. I think Bravo can do better and I think they should try to do better but still the numbers aren’t bad enough to call for cancellation either. This one might sit in undecided territory for a while.
