Press Release Translations: Part 2

Yeah I decided to give you all a double with this one today. I won’t hold myself to doing one of these every week but I will do them whenever I see a press release that makes me roll my eyes, like this one.

This press release is about Bravo touting their success with part 1 of The Real Housewives of New Jersey reunion. If there’s one pet peeve I have it’s this adding junk because the added number is the one that always gets thrown around and makes people think the show is bigger than it is. Then they wonder why the hell the show keeps getting renewed when the real average is like 30-50% of the inflated number. Unlike the Oxygen one this one will be much shorter.

BRAVO MEDIA'S "THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF NEW JERSEY" REUNION PART ONE EARNS NEARLY 6 MILLION TOTAL VIEWERS FOR THE NIGHT

"The Real Housewives of New Jersey" Premiere Delivers 3.5 Million Total Viewers And Is No. 1 Cable Unscripted Entertainment Telecast Of The Week

NEW YORK - October 2, 2012 - Bravo Media's "The Real Housewives of New Jersey" reunion part one was the #1 unscripted cable entertainment telecast of the week and pulled in 5.8 million total viewers, for the night (9/30/12), across all plays, according to Nielsen. The 10PM premiere telecast garnered the highest rated episode of the season with 3.5 million total viewers and 2.1 million adults 18-49, marking season-over-season growth.

Translation: Ok the headline line and the first line are a little contradictory but we implore you to read the headline. That’s why we put it in all CAPS!! Don’t pay attention to the paragraph either because we’re trying to be great and 6 million sounds better than 5.8 million which sounds better than 3.5 million which sounds way way better than 3.493 million which is what the show actually got. See we’re simplifying things for you so you don’t have to have brain freeze. We did all this to say that we expected the reunion to grow a lot more than it did because we had Theresa Guidice literally everywhere this week and the ratings only went up by 86,000 viewers from last week’s finale.

Bravo also delivered digital success as "The Real Housewives of New Jersey" recorded a 150 percent increase in streams from the prior week's day after premiere, earning its best day of the season to date on BravoTV.com. As a result, Monday was the best day of the year to date on BravoTV.com in terms of total video streams. The "Real Housewives of New Jersey" also saw a 53 percent increase in social media activity from the prior week, earning its best day, season to date.

Translation: A lot of people watched the online clips. We won’t tell you how many but that counts for something right?

Translation: We, like all networks are obligated to quote the source of these numbers so that’s standard operating procedure but we hope you didn’t take notice of the fact that we needed to add not one, not two but THREE reruns to the first-run number to get our 6 million total. Do the research and math if you dare :: snickers :: .
